PSNA in the Press | Crypto companies underestimated the Central Bank's regulatory requirements - M&A as an entry or survival strategy

Our partner Tiago Severo Gomes was featured in a Valor Econômico article on the Central Bank's regulatory requirements for crypto companies, which reveals a problem that is becoming evident in the sector: many companies underestimated what it means to operate in a regulated market.

Governance, controls, operational structure, compliance, capital.

This is the standard the Central Bank is making clear for virtual asset service providers.

And there is an important detail: there is a deadline.

From October 30, 2026, unauthorized institutions will not be able to provide virtual asset services in Brazil.

Regulatory transitions like this usually produce two movements in the market:

  • some companies manage to adapt;
  • others discover that building the entire regulatory structure takes time and capital.

That is when M&A stops being an expansion strategy and becomes an entry or survival strategy.
