Our partner Diogo Nebias contributed to a Revista Portos e Navios report on Brazil's first auction for dredging a port access channel.
"A expressiva concorrência observada no certame mostra que o modelo foi bem calibrado, combinando deságio em tarifa com pagamento de outorgas fixa e anual — uma estrutura equilibrada que deve se tornar referência para futuras concessões portuárias" [The strong competition seen in the auction shows that the model was well calibrated, combining a tariff discount with fixed and annual concession fee payments — a balanced structure that should become a benchmark for future port concessions], says Diogo Nebias.
The auction for the Port of Paranaguá access channel inaugurates a new concession model for port dredging services, focused on ensuring continuous traffic of deeper-draft vessels and increasing the efficiency of national logistics.
In 2025, the port sector had a busy agenda of auctions and concessions, a trend that is expected to intensify in 2026, reflecting the government's effort to overcome infrastructure bottlenecks and improve the efficiency of the Brazilian port system.
